Ethiopian civic Engagement Dire Dawa civic incubation Center

The Dire Dawa Civic Incubation Centre (DDCIC) was established to promote meaningful civic engagement among community-based and civic actors in Dire Dawa and the surrounding region for inclusive, peaceful, democratic, and accountable local and national government. The launching and kick-off meeting was conducted with the presence of CSOs, women's associations, youth associations, media, Dire Dawa University, DD BoFED, and the Dire Dawa Culture and Tourism Bureau.

With support from the Ethiopia Humanitarian Fund (EHF), Positive Action for Development (PAD) implemented a comprehensive emergency health and nutrition response in Aberegele and Gazgibla woredas of Wag Himra Zone, Amhara Region, expanding access to critical services for vulnerable communities.

As part of the intervention:

• Medical equipment worth over ETB 6 million was provided to health facilities, including diagnostic tools, oxygen concentrators, ultrasound machines, and hematology analyzers, strengthening emergency, maternal, and pediatric care.

• Five conflict-damaged facilities (three health centers and two health posts) were rehabilitated, restoring functional primary healthcare services.

• Three Infant and Young Child Feeding rooms were constructed to support maternal counseling and acute malnutrition management.

• Essential medicines and medical supplies were continuously distributed to ensure uninterrupted service delivery.

• Mobile Health and Nutrition Teams delivered integrated services to hard-to-reach communities.

• Community-based cooking demonstrations promoted improved infant and young child feeding practices at household level.

This integrated approach has improved access to quality health and nutrition services for thousands of women and children, strengthened referral systems, and enhanced the capacity of frontline facilities, supporting early recovery and reinforcing the resilience of the local health system.
